  21.    This diskette contains drivers and programs for Windows 3.1 users who
  22.    have a Sound Blaster Pro or Sound Blaster Pro Basic, model CT-1600.

  40. III. Installing the drivers
  41. ---------------------------
  42.  
  43.    1. Start Windows v3.1.
  44.  
  45.    2. Open the Control Panel and select the Drivers icon.
  46.  
  47.    3. At a minimum, you should have the following driver names in the
  48.       Installed Drivers list:
  49.  
  50.             MIDI Mapper
  51.             Timer
  52.             [MCI] CD Audio
  53.             [MCI] MIDI Sequencer
  54.             [MCI] Sound
  55.  
  56.       If you have any Sound Blaster or Adlib drivers installed, please remove
  57.       them with the REMOVE button and restart Windows before continuing.  If
  58.       any of these drivers are not listed, please add them before continuing.
  59.       (See your Windows manual for details on adding these drivers.)  Make sure
  60.       you restart Windows after making changes to the driver list.
  61.    
  62.    4. Click on the ADD button.
  63.  
  64.    5. Select Unlisted or Updated driver and click on OK.
  65.  
  66.    6. Insert the floppy containing the drivers.
  67.  
  68.    7. Type in the drive letter of the floppy drive containing the driver disk.
  69.  
  70.    8. Select Sound Blaster Pro Auxiliary Audio and click on OK.
  71.  
  72.    9. Windows will prompt you for the Sound Blaster I/O address.  The default
  73.       I/O address is 220H.  If you have changed the jumper on your card to
  74.       240H, then select 240H.
  75.  
  76.   10. Windows will ask if you want to restart your system.  Click on
  77.       DON'T RESTART, then repeat steps 4, 5, 6, and 7.
  78.  
  79.   WARNING! - Steps 11 and 12 will OVERWRITE your existing MIDIMAP.CFG
  80.              configuration.  If you want to keep your existing configuration,
  81.              click on CANCEL and make a copy of MIDIMAP.CFG before continuing
  82.              the installation process.
  83.  
  84.   11. Select Voyetra / Sound Blaster SuperSAPI FM Drivers and click on OK.
  85.  
  86.   12. Windows will ask if you want to use the current MIDIMAP.CFG
  87.       or install the new MIDIMAP.CFG - Select NEW and continue on.
  88.  
  89.   13. Windows will prompt you for the Sound Blaster I/O address.
  90.       Repeat the instructions in step 9.
  91.  
  92.   14. Windows will ask if you want to restart your system.  Click on
  93.       DO NOT RESTART, then repeat steps 4, 5, 6, and 7.
  94.  
  95.   15. Select Sound Blaster Pro Wave and MIDI and click on OK.
  96.  
  97.   16. Windows will prompt you for the Sound Blaster I/O address, Interrupt, and
  98.       DMA channel. Choose the settings your card is set to and continue on.
  99.  
  100.   17. Windows will ask if you want to restart your system.  Click on
  101.       RESTART.  Windows will then restart.
  102.  
  103.  
  104. IV. What to do if the drivers don't install correctly
  105. -----------------------------------------------------
  106.  
  107.    If you are having problems installing the drivers, here are some things to
  108.    check before you call Technical Support.  Also, be sure to read the
  109.    "Important Notes" section below.
  110.  
  111. ** 1. If you installed Windows 3.1 using the "Express Installation,"  Windows
  112.       scanned your hard disk for programs to be installed.  As a result, older
  113.  
  114.       versions of the Jukebox, and Mixer were installed if they were on your
  115.       hard disk at the time of installation.  Please remove these icons.  To
  116.       do this, click on the icon once to select it, then press the delete key.
  117.       Windows will ask you for confirmation.  Repeat for each icon.
  118.  
  119.    2. Open the Driver applet in Control panel.  You should at least have the
  120.       following driver names in the Installed Drivers list:
  121.  
  122.             Creative Sound Blaster Pro Auxiliary Audio
  123.             Creative Sound Blaster Pro Wave and MIDI
  124.         Voyetra / Sound Blaster SuperSAPI FM Drivers 
  125.             MIDI Mapper
  126.             Timer
  127.             [MCI] MIDI Sequencer
  128.             [MCI] Sound
  129.  
  130.       If one or more of these drivers do not exist, you must install the
  131.       driver(s) using the Driver applet in Control Panel (See the Windows
  132.       manual for more details).
  133.  
  134.    4. Check your SYSTEM.INI by choosing RUN from the File menu of the Program
  135.       Manager, and typing SYSEDIT in the command line box.  Examine the
  136.       [drivers] and [sndblst.drv] sections.  They should look something like
  137.       this:

  152.    5. If Windows refuses to install a device driver or you get the error
  153.       message "Device not found" when playing a Wave or MIDI file or a
  154.       CD, be sure you have the following settings in the [mci] section of
  155.       SYSTEM.INI
  156.  
  157.               [mci]
  158.               WaveAudio=mciwave.drv
  159.               Sequencer=mciseq.drv
  160.               CDAudio=mcicda.drv
  161.  
  162.       If one or more of these do not exist, you must install the driver(s)
  163.       using the Driver applet in Control Panel (See the Windows manual for
  164.       instructions).  Do not type in the entries into the SYSTEM.INI because
  165.       the files have to be installed into your SYSTEM directory by Windows.

  168. V. If you upgraded from Windows 3.0 to Windows 3.1
  169. --------------------------------------------------
  170.  
  171.    If you upgraded an existing copy of Windows 3.0 or Windows 3.0 with
  172.    Multimedia Extensions to Windows 3.1, here are some special notes to
  173.    consider.
  174.  
  175.    1. If you have a line which reads "device=vsbd.386" in the [386Enh] section
  176.       of SYSTEM.INI, please delete it.  This is an old driver which has been
  177.       replaced by VSBPD.386.  The new driver will not work correctly until this
  178.       line is removed.
  179.  
  180.    2. Delete the file SBPMIXER.CPL in the Windows SYSTEM directory.  It is no
  181.       longer being supported.  The new SBPMIXER.EXE is now used instead and is
  182.       loaded automatically when you install the Sound Blaster drivers.
  183.  
  184.    3. After installing Windows 3.1, verify that the latest SBPMIXER.EXE,
  185.       SBP2FM.DRV, SBPAUX.DRV and SBPSND.DRV have been copied to your hard
  186.       disk.  You can delete any older versions that you find in your system.

  189. VI. Important notes
  190. -------------------

  195.    1. The drivers found in the file CREATE.EXE on Microsoft's BBS and in the
  196.       Microsoft Forum on CompuServe are not the latest drivers for Windows 3.1
  197.       and may not work properly.  Please do not use them.
  198.  
  199.    2. The drivers that are included with the Windows 3.1 Resource Kit are not
  200.       the latest drivers and may not work properly.  Please do not use them.
  201.  
  202.    3. We are including drivers that make use of Device Virtualization.  These
  203.       drivers will allow DOS Apps that use the Sound Blaster to run in Enhanced
  204.       Mode.
  205.  
  206.       Please make sure that a line reading "device=vsbpd.386" exists under the
  207.       [386Enh] section in your SYSTEM.INI.  If you have a line which reads
  208.       "device=vsbd.386", please delete it.  Also, make sure the file VSBPD.386
  209.       is in your Windows SYSTEM directory.  If it is not, copy it from the
  210.       Drivers Disk.
  211.  
  212.    4. The Windows 3.1 drivers can now be used in both Windows 3.0 with
  213.       Multimedia extensions as well as Windows 3.1.  They will check the
  214.       Windows version and use the correct Sound Blaster section name to access
  215.       the settings in the SYSTEM.INI.
  216.  
  217.    5. A MIDI-MAP has been created to make use of the SBP2FM.DRV, please use the
  218.       MIDI MAPPER icon under Control Panel to customize it to your requirements.
  219.  
  220.       Under Windows 3.1, MIDI channel 10 is referenced as the drum channel.
  221.       If you are having problems with the FM synth not sounding "right", try
  222.       modifying the configuration with the MIDI Mapper.
